About Us

The School of Healthcare Enterprise and Innovation (HEI)) is based within the Faculty of Medicine (University of Southampton) and is home to the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC).

We are focused on enabling high quality, practice-based research evidence, through research funding and management services, to support decision makers in health and social care. Our work and capabilities are broad: from patient & public involvement in research, priority setting, research funding, managing the delivery of research, publishing and disseminating research findings.

NETSCC is responsible for managing around £200m of new research funding each year, with an active portfolio of around £1bn. Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, NETSCC manages six national and international research funding programmes on behalf of the NIHR and a substantial portfolio of NIHR’s Global Health Research commitment in support of the UK Aid Strategy. The NETSCC contract is the largest enterprise contract held by the University of Southampton.

We are committed to building an inclusive and diverse culture at the school and creating an environment where people can balance successful careers with their commitments and interests outside of work.   Our flexible working practices, including a hybrid working model, where employees can split their working time between the office and home, support our belief that this balance brings long-lasting benefits for our institution as well as our people.
