An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Student and Education Services, supporting students as part of our Student Disability and Inclusion team.  We are currently recruiting a proactive and enthusiastic Student Disability Team Leader to manage the University’s Student Disability Practitioner team to deliver high quality, seamless disability support and advice for students within the context of the Equality Act 2010.   

As a Student Disability Team Leader, you will lead a team responsible for supporting disabled students through specialist support and reasonable adjustments.  The students we support include, but are not limited to, those with physical disabilities, mental health and wellbeing conditions such as depression or anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment, visual impairment and long term health conditions, such as chronic fatigue, or epilepsy.    

In this role you will be expected to: 

  • Manage a team of specialist practitioners, including the setting of clear objectives, managing performance and ensuring KPIs are understood and achieved.  
  • Develop and maintain clear processes and procedures for the team that put students at the heart of everything we do. 
  • Work in partnership with Disability and Inclusion managers to ensure the service runs safely and efficiently and that staff are developed and supported in their roles.
  • Work collegially with other colleagues to take a multi-disciplinary approach which creates a seamless student experience to support our students.  
  • Lead on individual project areas within related to student support, chair meetings and lead discussion groups .
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Disabled Student Strategic Plan to ensure an outstanding student experience for all. 

Successful candidates must have a relevant degree, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent skill level and/or hold a relevant specialist qualification. An understanding of working within a Higher Education setting would be beneficial.  Applications are welcomed from those with experience of team leadership working in a relevant field (e.g. disability advisors, occupational health, specialist teachers) or with an interest in this field and must be able to demonstrate experience of managing a team.

Please note, being able to work flexibly is a requirement of this role; you will work both virtually and in a large open plan office; occasional weekend and evening work is required for Open Days and Transition events for new students.  This role requires an enhanced DBS check.
