About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery. Working under the broad direction of the Associate Head for Veterinary Clinical Sciences you will provide leadership and coordination, delivery, and assessment of veterinary surgery to DVM1, 2, 3 and 4, in the context of the veterinary surgery teaching team. You will also provide specialist level veterinary surgery clinical service to clients of the University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals in Sydney and Camden and be actively engaged in high quality research to the discipline area of Veterinary Surgery.
Within the Sydney School of Veterinary Sciences, the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney (UVTHS) has a range of small animal veterinary science disciplines including emergency/critical care, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, anaesthesiology, diagnostic imaging and primary care. It provides the clinical learning experience for DVM students & clinical residency students engaged in professional training programs, while also providing referral level and best-practice veterinary services to the public. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art operating rooms (remodeled 3 years ago), central sterile facility and ICU. Equipment includes TPLO/THR(CFX/BFX/Helica), locking AO & Fixin plating equipment/ImexSK ESF/CRF and an ILN system. We have state of the art digital arthroscopy/laparoscopy equipment and intra-operative C-arm fluoroscopy. Our imaging suite is equipped with digital radiography, 128-slice helical CT, and MRI. We have access to off-site scintigraphy, PET-CT, intraoperative helical CT, and CT-based 3D printing of bone models as well as implants. Unique to the UVTHS is a complete feline ICU, postoperative ward and I-131 ward.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- maintain reputation for academic excellence
- make original and innovative contribution to the advancement of research and education within the discipline which are recognised as outstanding, nationally or internationally
- maintain a research profile which meets University expectation and standard and enhance the reputation of the School, including, success in competitive research grants and other research income generation, publications in peer-reviewed international journals
- lead the development in research which enhance the reputation of the School, such as leading participation in internationally-funded research projects or partner-engaged research projects
- ensure outstanding teaching and learning outcome
- coordinate and develop curricula and program within the School
- coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experience which meet the University's expectations and standards for education
- lead strategic initiatives and partnerships with external organisations, including government, industry and/or community organisations.

- a PhD or specialist qualification
- Veterinary Science degree registered to practice in New South Wales

- an understanding of and ability to lead and support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
