About the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences

The Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences is one of six schools within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. The School’s teaching is underpinned by excellence in research across a range of fields, including cognitive and behavioural neuroscience, cognitive and mathematical psychology, social and personality psychology, and clinical science.

About the Role

The School is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to serve as Director of its popular postgraduate clinical psychology program, complement and extend its research strengths, and contribute more broadly to its teaching programs. Reporting to Professor Kim Felmingham, the successful applicant will have attained recognition as a leading figure in their discipline of clinical psychology and achieved distinction at national and international levels.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and administrative oversight of the Master of Psychology (Clinical) and Master of Psychology (Clinical)/PhD programs.
  • Contributing and coordinating activities associated with the ongoing accreditation of the postgraduate clinical psychology program with the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council.
  • Contributing to the School’s strategic planning and policy decision making processes, particularly in relation to the clinical psychology program. 
  • Providing leadership in the review and development of curriculum in the clinical psychology area.
  • Conducting research in the appointee’s area of expertise, independently and in collaboration with others.

About You

You will bring your outstanding interpersonal skills, with excellence in building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external), with the capacity to nurture a collegial organisational culture based on shared values and priorities. You can evidence your successful supervision and timely completion of fourth year and postgraduate research students, as well as your success in obtaining external research funding, and building productive research collaborations.

You will also have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research higher degree in Psychology.
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia
