School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI) The School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering undertakes teaching and research across a range of disciplines that are internationally recognised for their contribution to fundamental research. It has a number of well-established industry linkages and international partnerships. It is building a vibrant profile of interdisciplinary research, working with industry with an aim to contribute to society.

About the role:

You will play a leading role in contributing to the teaching and research program in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, and to enhance interdisciplinary research within the Faculty and the University in collaboration with external organisations.

The objective of this role is to develop strong relationships with industry to ensure our Engineering Management curriculum is aligned to contemporary industry practice. This will enhance the experience of our students and ensure their skills and knowledge post-graduation are aligned to industry expectations. It is a fantastic opportunity to develop the next generation of project managers and provide them the education they need to deliver projects that are both high value and sustainable, providing positive outcomes not only for industry but for the community.

The University would be open to a joint appointment with industry, structured in a manner to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, for example a part-time position for a fixed period.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build and foster partnerships with industry, government, collaborators at other Universities and other stakeholders that contribute to the engagement of teaching and research in the wider community engagement.
  • Teaching subjects to a standard that delivers an enriched learning experience for students in the Master of Engineering Management and other Engineering Masters and undergraduate programs.
  • Provide a significant degree of scholarly research initiative and collaboration in the discipline of Engineering Project Management.
  • Take a leading role in the department/school to actively foster and participate in industry liaison activities consistent with the Faculty business plan.

About You

Ideally we are seeking engineers with a strong industry background and prior experience in an academic role, with highly-developed knowledge of topics within end-to-end project management such as contract management, sustainable infrastructure procurement and engineering asset management.

You are a confident leader with excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and manage personnel, timelines and budget. You have prior experience in teaching and developing educational programs across a range of subjects.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in Civil Engineering with Engineering Management or relevant discipline; significant relevant industry experience combined with a relevant qualification may also be considered.
  • A track record in sustainable infrastructure procurement and/or engineering asset management, demonstrated by evidence such as publications in leading journals and conferences or through significant industry experience.
