Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a Geoheritage Research Assistant within UCD School of Geography

This 10-month Research Assistant post supports the delivery of the ambitions of CUPHAT, a collaborative project, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme 2014-2020. This project brings together three partners: University College Dublin (UCD), Aberystwyth University (AU), and the Dyfed Archaeological Trust and seeks to promote sustainable forms of heritage-based tourism in coastal upland landscapes that border the Irish Sea, namely the Wicklow Mountains and Blackstairs Mountains (in Ireland) and the Cambrian Mountains and Preseli Hills (in Wales).

The overall aim is to use the cultural and natural heritage assets of these four areas to promote sustainable forms of tourism within them, thus leading to the creation of more sustainable livelihoods, communities, and environments. The Research Assistant will form part of the Citizen Science Work Package (WP3) team coordinated by the UCD School of Geography and will support the delivery of components of the project specifically focusing on geological and geomorphological landscape and landscape elements, under the direction of Dr Jonathan Turner (School of Geography).

The Research Assistant will be required to provide base level syntheses of the current state of knowledge of the geoheritage of the Wicklow Mountains and Blackstairs Mountains within a GIS framework. In addition, the Research Assistant will engage in identifying potential citizen science activities, including the potential application of digital technologies to capture and display information related to geoheritage. The role will also include developing links with schools and school children to encourage them to engage in citizen science activities and collaborating with project partners in UCD and AU to assist in realising citizen science activities.

Salary Range: €27,380 - €28,550 per annum* *

Salary offered will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
