Job description

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Research Fellow to join the RIED Team as a Research Fellow on our exciting programme to Re-Imagine Engineering Design. Our vision is to create a smart integrated design methodology that generates product and manufacturing systems simultaneously together with next generation socio-cyber-physical systems.

As part of the team you will be responsible for developing new ideas and concepts in service-oriented architecture, human-machine/robot interaction/collective decision making, cloud manufacturing, supply chain, business process mapping/modelling, uncertainties, etc., to enable integration of design and manufacturing systems and make collective human-machine decisions. You will work in partnership with other researchers in QUB, York and Loughborough delivering a team solution for the whole programme.

This post is available on a fixed term contract for 3 years.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • 2.1 Honours Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or closely related discipline
  • A PhD, or about to obtain a PhD, in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics/Robotics or closely related discipline
  • At least 3 years relevant research experience in digital manufacturing, or human machine/robot interaction, or relevant industrial experience, including demonstrable experience in manufacturing systems

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
