Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Atmospheric Science

Applications are invited for seven full-time Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Atmospheric Science at School of Atmospheric Science, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST).

Description:

The School of Atmospheric Science (SAS) of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) develops from the Department of Meteorology of Nanjing Institute of Meteorology (the predecessor of NUIST) when it was established in 1960. The school offers bachelor’s degree program in Atmospheric Science and master’s and doctoral degree programs in Meteorology and in Climate System and Climate Change. There is also a post-doctoral research center in Atmospheric Science. The discipline of Atmospheric Science ranked No. 1 in the national discipline assessments conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China  in both 2012 and 2017 (graded as A+). Known as the  “cradle of China’s meteorological talents”, NUIST has cultivated nearly half of the meteorological professionals for China’s meteorological industry. Through the International Joint Laboratory for Climate and Environmental Change (one of the first three authorized by MOE), SAS has established partnerships with top universities and research institutions such as Harvard University, Yale University, University of Wisconsin, University of Hawaii, Florida State University, University of Cambridge, University of Reading, University of Manchester, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), and Japan Agency for the Development of Marine Science and Technology (JAMSTEC).

The post is based in the modern city of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, with easy access to public transportation, international airports, convenient stores, hospitals etc.

Main Responsibilities:

Applications are invited for seven positions of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in atmospheric science. Research expertise can be in any basic or applied area of atmospheric science. Successful appointees are expected to teach courses and do research in atmospheric science including climate dynamics, climate simulation, climate change, weather and mesoscale meteorology, numerical weather prediction and model development, climate model development, climate prediction and assessment, and climate application.

Person Specification:

Essential

  • PhD or equivalent degree in atmospheric science or related fields
  • Appropriate research experience and ability in atmospheric science
  • High proficiency in English
  • Ability to teach courses in atmospheric science
  • Publication of at least 3 articles in JCR Q1 & Q2 journals or other equivalent  journals

Desirable

  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Teaching expertise in climate dynamics, climate simulation, climate change, weather and mesoscale meteorology, numerical weather prediction and model development, climate model development, climate prediction and assessment, and climate application
  • University-level teaching experience

Salary:

Annual salary of RMB 350,000-1000,000 RMB (before tax), with a settling-in allowance of 100,000+ RMB (RMB) depending on qualifications and experience;

Social Insurance;

International travel allowance of 10,000-15,000 RMB per year.

For outstanding candidates, the salary and welfare are negotiable.
