Associate Professor in Economics of Peace and Development
The Department of Peace Studies and International Development is seeking applications or this new academic position of Associate Professor of Economics for Peace and Development. We are seeking excellent candidates with advanced understanding of macro-economics and international economic development who can play leading roles in research and teaching in the areas of Peace Studies and International Development.

The Department of Peace Studies and International Development (PSID) situated within the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences has been one of the oldest centres of development studies and the world's first University department dedicated to Peace Studies. These two specialisms have been well recognised as centres of international excellence for undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education, research and knowledge transfer. The Department has an extensive global network of alumni and staff members have been creating impact through their research internationally and nationally. The Department is home to the Rotary Peace Centre which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year; and has a track record of working with a wide range of international and regional organisations, governments, and civil society groups around the world. The Department presently has over 300 students annually, most of them international, on its 8 postgraduate programmes; together with a large and lively PhD student programme.
To sustain and build on this success and develop other programmes, the Department is currently looking to appoint an Associate Professor in Economics of Peace and Development to join our team and contribute to teaching, research and knowledge transfer in this field with a clear international focus and have wider experience/expertise relevant to the international peace and development processes and programmes.
The ideal candidate for the Associate Professor post must possess a Doctorate or equivalent research experience in a relevant field and will be expected to have a research track record at 3* or 4* journal level and continue to be research active with grant capture activity and ambition. Because of the applied nature of this field we are open to candidates who may not have a PhD but have considerable experience in international policy or practitioner communities.. Such a candidate is expected to have excellent track record in Knowledge Transfer (KT) or other forms of grant income equivalent to research grant capture.
The candidate will be expected to work with our present team and contribute to the development and delivery of a range of programmes in the Department including the MSc in Economics and Finance of Development and MA in Peace, Conflict and Development but also contribute to other programmes in the Department and prepare students with excellent employability skills. The candidate is expected to have programme leadership experience. While the candidate is expected have excellent quantitative data analysis skills, additional desirable skills of the candidate are technical skillsets such as in advanced and applied econometrics, proficiency in the use of relevant software packages such as Stata, Microfit, eviews.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to digital as well as face-to-face learning and teaching, working closely with established partners and contributing towards the Department's excellent track record of winning and delivering KT projects and executive education. The successful candidate will also need to evidence excellent networking, engagement activities with local and international organisations active on issues relating to peace or development. .
