Job Details

The Department of Peace Studies and International Development (PSID) situated within the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences has been one of the oldest centres of development studies and the world's first University department dedicated to Peace Studies. These two specialisms have been well recognised as centres of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education, research and knowledge transfer excellence. The Department has an extensive global network of alumni and staff members have been creating impact through their research internationally and nationally.

The Department is home to the Rotary Peace Centre which is due to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. The Department's reputation in the field of development projects dates back to 1969 as a centre of excellence in project planning and appraisal. The Department presently has over 300 students, most of them international, on its 8 postgraduate programmes. Of these, there has been particularly notable growth in the demand for the MSc in Project Planning and Management.

To sustain and build on this success, the Department is currently looking to appoint an Associate Professor in Project Management to join our team and contribute to teaching, research and knowledge transfer in this field with a clear international focus and have wider experience/expertise relevant to the international development projects/ Global South.

The ideal candidate for the Associate Professor post must possess a Doctorate in a relevant field and will be expected to have a research track record at 3* or 4* journal level and continue to be research active with grant capture activity and ambition. Because of the applied nature of this field we are open to candidates who may not have a PhD but have considerable real world project management and delivery experience and Project Management Institute (PMI) or other relevant professional body recognition. Such a candidate is expected to have excellent track record in Knowledge Transfer (KT) or other forms of grant income equivalent to research grant capture.

The candidate will be expected to work with our present team and contribute to the development and delivery of the MSc in Project Planning and Management, lead the accreditation of this programme towards relevant professional bodies and prepare students with excellent employability skills. The candidate is expected to have programme leadership experience. Ideally, the candidate must have technical skillsets such as advanced proficiency in all areas of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and have prior knowledge of using relevant software packages such as Microsoft Project and Excel.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to digital learning teaching, working closely with established partners and contributing towards the Department's excellent track record of winning and delivering KT projects and executive education. The successful candidate will also need to evidence excellent networking, business and community engagement activities with local and international (development agencies) and/or business organisations.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor PB Anand, Head of PSID  p.b.anand@bradford.ac.uk OR Professor Peter Mitchell, Head of School of Social Sciences p.mitchell1@bradford.ac.uk.
