Joining the Birmingham School of Architecture and Design as a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture, you will be responsible for teaching delivery at the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art (BIFCA) based in Wuhan, China. The Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Art (BIFCA) is a collaboration between Wuhan Textile University and Birmingham City University, combining the expertise of both institutions to provide a number of creative courses at state-of-the-art facilities in Wuhan, China. BIFCA’s teaching commitment is expanding and we are seeking a lecturer to join our Landscape Architecture area to contribute to its continuing development. The position offers a unique opportunity to live and work in a popular part of China on a 2-year fixed term contract. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Contributing to the teaching, learning and coordination of BIFCA's Landscape Architecture programme across different levels of the undergraduate course, under the leadership of the Course Director
  • Ensuring an excellent student experience through the use of relevant and inspiring learning, teaching, and assessment methods
  • Providing support and mentoring to individual students via our personal tutor system
  • Preparing students who choose the 2+2 route for a successful transition for studying in the UK

Other duties may include course and module administration, study trips and liaison with the UK course team and link tutor.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Qualifications in Landscape Architecture and/or Urban Design to Degree level and preferably to Masters level (essential)
  • A track record of teaching in Higher Education (essential); industry experience is also welcomed
  • Excellent design and communication skills (essential)
  • Strong management and organisational skills (essential) 
  • An ability to contribute to another area of the curriculum such as history and theory, construction, skills building, or professional studies (essential)
  • Experience of teaching in an international context and the ability to operate successfully in different cultures (desirable)
  • Climate literacy and knowledge of sustainable design (desirable).

The Birmingham School of Architecture and Design at Birmingham City University is a diverse and interdisciplinary design community exploring designed environments through the scales. We provide undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design, and Product and Furniture Design, along with cross-cutting programmes in Conservation of the Historic Environment, Design Management, Design and Visualisation, Design for Future Living and a Foundation in Architecture and Design. From our creative arts faculty setting we aim to educate ethical, entrepreneurial & forward-thinking graduates concerned with people, place and planet. The school has a number of international partnerships delivering trans-national education in China and Malaysia.  

BIFCA is a collaborative effort between Birmingham City University and Wuhan Textile University, combining the expertise of both institutions to provide a number of creative arts courses at the fantastic campus in Wuhan, China. BIFCA provides all of our talented and ambitious students with access to the state-of-the-art facilities, including the latest 3D design and media production equipment, contained in a completely refurbished 10,000m² building. Students successfully completing their programmes at BIFCA are able to gain a dual award from both BCU and WTU. With a series of innovative, creative, technologically driven and professionally oriented programmes BIFCA represents the new era of quality oriented, collaborative TNE (Transnational Education), responsive to the needs of all stakeholders. Students are able to choose between studying their whole programme in China or studying part in China and completing their programme at BCU after their second year of study, 2+2. BIFCA offers three programmes of study: Digital Media Technology, Landscape Architecture and Visual Communication. BIFCA also provides English Language programmes to support students.
