Birmingham City University (BCU) is a large and diverse university right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Coach Development Officer to join our dynamic BCU Sport team. The role will suit an experienced coach developer looking to advance their career working on a project funded by the Football Association (FA) and BCU.

Working as part of the BCU Sport team you will be responsible for the recruitment, development, and deployment of coaches for the women's game from the University and the region. You will produce the strategy and manage the delivery of the operational plan to develop coaches for the region linked to the Women's National League and Professional clubs in the region.

Through the development of the strategy and operational plan, the Coach Development Officer will:

  • Establish and lead a working group consisting of key stakeholders to develop and monitor the delivery linked to the overall strategic objectives.
  • Work with the wider FA Coach Development Team; (Regional Women and Girls Officers, Diversity and Inclusion, Physical Education and Women’s National Coach Developers) to support the development of female football in the Region and across the HEI.
  • Work strategically and collaboratively with the FA, County FAs and HEI to deploy the FA’s new ‘coach development model’ which will underpin all coach development initiatives in support of the women’s and girls’ game, alongside increasing both the number of qualified female coaches, coaches from ethnically diverse backgrounds & Disabled coaches across the game.
  • Track and analyse delivery of the Coach Development Plan through quarterly reviews linked to KPIs and share good practice across the FA WHPFC network.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of The FA WHPFC GK Centre, providing support to both players and coaches through weekly sessions.
  • Oversee safeguarding and welfare of players, alongside monthly reviews linked to the programme objectives. 

With significant experience of coach development and education you will have:

  • Relevant professional qualification. UEFA B Coaching Licence, desirablyUEFA A Coaching Licence 
  • Experience of contributing to player engagement and development plans
  • Experience of coaching a diverse player group within a relevant environment
  • Experience of working in the female game
  • Have the ability to motivate, inspire and lead a team.
  • Have the ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals including coaches, players, staff and external organisations
