We are seeking to appoint a motivated and rigorous professional, who will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Civil Engineering Materials and Structures Laboratory. The post holder will participate in the experimental research activities of staff and students and will communicate effectively with different lab users. They will be responsible for the preparation, and contribute to the running, of laboratory classes on construction materials and structural design.

The job involves the preparation of test samples using conventional and rapid prototyping techniques, undertaking testing using advanced testing protocols, as well as installing arrangements specific for different testing configurations. The postholder will be required to support experimental projects at all academic levels, as circumstances dictate and as requested by their line manager. They will be responsible for maintaining the testing equipment in excellent working conditions and for the professional upkeep of the laboratory spaces. They will work closely with other technical staff to ensure the safe and efficient running of laboratories, and to showcase the experimental activities of Civil and Environmental Engineering in relation to student applicants and external sponsors/clients.

The post holder will maintain the Civil Engineering Materials and Structures Laboratory, and set up and run laboratory tests. They will have good communication and IT skills. A qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering, or similar discipline, is desirable. Some relevant work experience in the above fields related to cement-based materials and mechanical testing would be an advantage.
