About the Department of Medical Education


The Department of Medical Education (DME) was established as a department within the Melbourne Medical School in 2015, building on the success of the school’s Medical Education Unit. It is based at the university’s Parkville campus with clinical school bases at metropolitan and rural health services throughout Victoria. It has responsibility for the MD course and postgraduate programs.

About the Role

The Western Clinical School of The University of Melbourne is looking for a dynamic, innovative medical teacher to teach students in one or many of the four years of the MD.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively teach into the program
  • Work with the Western Clinical School team to ensure that all students are provided with the learning experiences to meet the requirements of Principles of Clinical Practice (MD1, MD2 or MD3) or Transition to Practice (MD4)
  • Continuously refine and refresh the curriculum’s structure and content responsive to feedback and changing educational methods
  • Assist with the delivery of miniCEX, physical examination, OSCE and/or long case assessment across relevant discipline areas in Year 1-4

About You

You are a medical professional who is passionate about teaching medical students to provide excellent patient care. You are a natural problem solver with strong communication, organisational, and time management skills. You will be able to draw on past experiences to work within a complex curriculum and with multiple stakeholders from different backgrounds

You will also have:

  • A medical degree registrable in Victoria
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching entry-to-practice medical or other health professional student
  • Substantial experience in teaching within a medical course
  • Substantial experience in medical education and the development of curriculum and/or assessments in a medical course
