Caring Futures Institute

Under general direction, the Research Associate will provide high-level coordination, support for and delivery of knowledge translation and implementation research in the ‘Better Systems’ theme of the Caring Futures Institute (CFI).

The overarching goal for the Better Systems theme is to build a competitive and impactful program of research that focuses on achieving improvement in complex health and care systems. This encompasses working across boundaries, building effective collaboration, and implementing evidence-informed practice and policy.

The Research Associate’s role will include supporting a state-wide project to improve palliative care for underserved populations, undertaking quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, coordinating knowledge translation and dissemination activities, and contributing as a member of a large inter-disciplinary project team.

Additionally, the Research Associate will provide project support to other implementation research studies as required. The Research Associate will work collegially and contribute to the generation of high-quality publications, conference presentations, and other outputs.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Associate will be accountable for:

• Making an independent high-quality contribution to the planning and execution of research design, implementation, and analysis, writing up results and outcomes dissemination.
• Coordinating the Flinders-led contribution to the state-wide palliative care project to successfully deliver project milestones and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Contributing to the planning and execution of research by offering new and innovative ideas, reviewing relevant literature and other sources of information, actively participating in recruitment as well as the collection, entry, and storage of data, contributing to the preparation of grant applications and preparing for and attending seminars, meetings, and conferences.
• Contributing to the coordination, planning and execution of project tasks required to collaborate with industry and community partners.
• Contributing to ethical, high-quality research through activities such as scholarship, quality publication, external grant acquisition and presentations that align with CFI areas of research strength and focus.
• Establishing and maintaining collaborations within the University, and at State, national and international levels to improve research outputs and publications.
• Some out of hour’s work (including weekends) as well as rural SA, interstate, and overseas travel, may be required.
• Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

• Completion or substantial progress towards a PhD in health-related field.
• Demonstrated research experience in terms of publications in high quality journals, and presentations at a national and/or international level.
• Demonstrated ability to critically review the literature in relevant fields.
• Demonstrated experience in mixed methods research, applying both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
• Demonstrated experience in contributing to delivering project targets on time and within budget.
• Demonstrated ability in planning and executing data collection, analysis, and storage.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to collaborative and interdisciplinary research teams, including establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, community members and industry.
• Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues in health care, palliative care and/or implementation science.

Prescribed Conditions for Employment

A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
