Join a unique British University in China.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. This award winning campus offering a UK style education has grown from its establishment in 2004 to a student body of 8,000 students.

The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China, a pioneer in Sino-foreign tertiary education, is rapidly expanding. It is looking for ambitious, talented academics with a passion for teaching as well as research flair to join its team of School of Economics. UNNC is part of the University of Nottingham’s Global University, and offers unique teaching and research opportunities in a highly dynamic economy.

The School of Economics at UNNC offers a ‘BSc International Economics and Trade’ and a ‘BSc Economics’, with an ‘MSc Finance and Investment (Economics, Money and Finance)’ and a PhD in Economics. It currently comprises 22 full time members of staff and one part time Professor with an additional four posts being filled for the coming academic year. The student population is 854 and looking to expand at the postgraduate level. 87 percent of our undergraduates last year proceeded with further studies in well recognised Universities of English-speaking countries. All programmes match well-established programmes running in the UK and benefit from shared resources with our campuses in UK and Malaysia. Administratively, the School is part of The Nottingham UK School of Economics, which is ranked fifth for research in the UK by the Tilburg University global ranking of economics schools and 38th in the world.

The successful candidate would be expected to teach at undergraduate and potentially postgraduate levels. Candidates with research and teaching interests in any area of economics are encouraged to apply, although fitting one or more of the fields in which the School has teaching or research needs would be desirable. Current teaching needs include labour economics, development economics, financial economics and quantitative economics. The School has three research centres: Globalisation and Economics Policy, the Centre for Health Economics and the Centre for Decision Reseach and Experimental Economics. The successful candidate will contribute to developments that will enhance the School’s reputation as a recognised centre of excellence in research and teaching. He or she will be expected to conduct innovative research leading to publication in top-ranking economics journals on a sustained basis; to deliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to assist with the administration of the School.

Candidates must have a PhD degree in Economics or a closely related discipline. Excellence in research, supported by a publication record commensurate with the level of the post is necessary. Teaching excellence, including strong communication and presentation skills in English, is essential.

The successful candidate will be offered a five-year contract that may be extended by mutual agreement. We are committed to providing competitive employment packages while supporting the wellbeing of our staff to help them reach their full potential. We offer international highly competitive salary package and you will have a range of benefits and entitlements, including accommodation allowance, insurances, schooling support, home flight, relocation & repatriation support, and paid annual leave.
