Research Fellow, Catalysis of CO2 Utilization
The Singapore’s low-carbon energy research (LCER) program offers a very significant opportunity to collaborate with NUS, NTU, and ICES in studying the potential of new materials synthesised in Singapore for use in processes, e.g. in carbon dioxide conversion and utilization (e.g., selective hydrogenation etc). This project will focus on the fundamentals of catalytic reactions within these materials. The long-term objective is to develop robust catalytic materials for CO2 hydrogenation applications. Materials of particular interest include those based on noble metal and transition metal nanoparticles; earth abundant metal oxides and their intercalated solids (e.g., LDHs); nanostructured MOFs and MOFs modified materials through the deposition of metal nanoparticles; structured porous polymers; structured carbon materials; graphene and graphene oxide materials; mesoporous SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, CaO and other metal oxides or silicates as catalyst supports. An important objective will be to develop low-cost catalysts and their carrier materials capable of reducing energy demand and carbon footprint at reasonable cost. In this research, it is expected that analytical tools will be used such as HRTEM/EDX, FT-IR, Raman, XPS, TGA, XRD, ICP, etc.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in, and organise, research discussion with local industries and partners, overseas universities and to write reports as required by the National University of Singapore.
- First degree and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, with a track record in heterogeneous catalysis and materials research. Previous familiarity with synthesis skills on nanomaterials and nanocatalysts would be a significant advantage.
- Very strong theoretical and experimental abilities.
- Ability to organise and manage own work and to specify critical experiments. Evidence of good management skills.
- Ability to work independently or in a team in the realisation of the R&D work.
- Ability to publish journal papers.
- Ability and willingness to train and advise graduates on relevant procedures.
- Regular reports and good documentation of research work are expected. A very high standard of written English for scientific presentation is expected.
- Candidates who are in the final stages of PhD studies (i.e., submitted thesis/ pending oral defence) may also be considered.
