If you’re interested in teaching Advertising and Branding, this role is for you

Diversity is as crucial to advertising and branding as it is to Winchester’s ambition to be the UK’s leading art school. Part of the University of Southampton, a founder member of the prestigious, research-led Russell Group of universities, we’re currently restructuring to quicken the pace of change. So it’s an exciting time to join us. Not only are we setting our sights high, but we’re also broadening our horizons too. This will make us the inclusive institution, employer and educator we must be as we continue to evolve.

With that in mind, this will be a role with influence and potential. Your perspective will be a crucial part of how we keep on changing for the better, for everyone.

The role

This is one of the school’s biggest post-graduate programmes. One of your key objectives will be to maintain its deserved reputation for innovative academic content. It’s about keeping the curriculum and how it’s delivered fresh. It’s about teaching from the diverse perspectives that are essential to inclusivity. This will combine with the pragmatic need to foster valuable industry contacts and the creative insight that will inspire our current students, enhance our offer and appeal to an ever-growing new cohort.

About you

Hands on working, guiding students to reach their potential will be at the heart of what you do. So this is a chance for a vocational academic to indulge their passion, be an inspiring mentor and valued colleague, someone who brings something uniquely their own to the core team. This means you will need a number of strings to your bow.

First and foremost, impressive commercial experience in advertising, branding and marketing. If you can combine this with a proven academic track record, and an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, so much the better. As well as having experience in the advertising and/or the marketing industry, you will have experience in teaching, be at ease in a lecture theatre and seminar setting, and able to meet the needs of a large and diverse student body. You should also have the ability to supervise and advise students on study skills, identifying their learning needs and defining learning objectives as well as assessing their work and providing constructive feedback. The candidates experience will dictate if the senior teaching fellow or teaching fellow posts are offered.

All of this will empower you to create a rich and rewarding student experience To do so, you will be adept at communicating to a diverse range of individuals from varying backgrounds and have specialist knowledge and understanding of race, multiculturalism, and diversity.

What we can offer you

Based at our Winchester campus, right in the heart of this historic city and nestled in green parkland, one hour from London, Winchester School of Art is a vibrant hub for over 1500 students. Take a look at our beautiful campus here.

Committed to supporting our teaching and research community we are open to a flexible working approach.  With an understanding that there is a need to be on campus for teaching duties we are open to a hybrid approach.  We would also consider applications for individuals wanting to work part-time.

As a university we aim to create an inclusive environment that attracts, supports and retains the best students and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences from across the world.

We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equality of opportunity. We select candidates on the basis of merit and ability and aspire to thrive in the diversity of our workforce.   We welcome applications from all candidates with an interest in the role, and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment.
