Te Kura ĀkauTaitoka/The University of Otago College of Education is dedicated to the enhancement of educational practice through high quality teaching, scholarship, research, professional leadership and community service, to benefit children, other learners, educators and the wider community (in local, national and international settings).

Te Mahi - The role

We seek to appoint a full-time, permanent (confirmation path), Pūkenga/Pūkenga Matua (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) in Education Studies and/or Initial Teacher Education.

You will be an active researcher in an area relating to Education. In this role, you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervise postgraduate research students, and support the development of Education Studies programmes for initial teacher education students.

You will play an active role contributing to our research culture at the College of Education, and you will contribute to service and committee work within the College, University, and wider Education community.

If you are a New Zealand registered teacher, you may also visit initial teacher education students on practicum.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A PhD degree.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at tertiary level.
• Relevant research experience and a corresponding publication record.
• A collaborative and collegial approach to work.
• A commitment to tereo and tikaka Māori, and to bicultural practice.
• A commitment to recognising kāhapū o Ōtākourūnaka - values, tikaka (processes), dialect, kawa (rules of cultural practice) and traditions of our manawhenua and Kāi Tahu iwi.
• A commitment to developing collaborative working relationships with colleagues and to supporting the University’s Māori, Pacific, and Sustainability strategic frameworks.

Experience in Māori and/or Pacific education, capability in tereo Māori and/or Pacific languages, and established connections with Māori and/or Pacific communities are preferred for this role.
