Faculty / Directorate
The Faculty of Health and Life sciences (HLS) is a large Faculty, with over
7000 students and 350 staff, that offers education across a large number of
health and social care subject areas. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences comprises four specialist schools – Leicester School of Allied Health Sciences, The School of Applied Social Sciences, The School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Leicester School of Pharmacy. A unique feature of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is that we educate and develop future professionals who make a significant difference to people’s lives, health, wellbeing, communities and society. Working alongside Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies, our approach to education reflects the latest research and evidence-based developments in the sector and many of our courses have professional accreditation. Our dedicated facilities are designed to replicate current practice and feature industry-standard equipment, enabling staff and students to undertake life changing projects to improve health and social care.

Role
The Associate Professor - Head of Division of Education Studies is a key
leadership role within the School of Applied Social Sciences. The role is an
important one in the university’s academic community, and the role-holder will be expected to make a positive, significant and strategic contribution.

The role
holder will work closely with the Head and Associate Head of School of Applied Social Sciences and will be responsible for the strategic development of the Education Studies portfolio, will oversee the running of all programmes, and will line manage Education Studies staff. DMU is undergoing a significant transformational change project called Education 2030, whereby programmes are being redesigned to better support student experience and student success. The Associate Professor will be integral in guiding the Education

Studies staff through this change, and in supporting others in the School and
Faculty also involved in the Education 2030 project.

Ideal Candidate
To be successful for this Associate Professor role, you will be both a highly
accomplished educator with proven expertise in the delivery of programmes in the HE sector in the area of Education Studies or a closely related field, and have the respect of the academic community. You will have excellent
leadership skills to lead and manage staff in the Division of Education Studies.

You will have the ability to influence and motivate others and foster an inclusive culture within the subject area and across the institution. You will be responsible for developing and managing teaching and learning activities which cater for students from diverse backgrounds and have an influence on the pedagogy of the subject area. You will oversee the development of research in the Division, supported by a range of senior research active staff, and will also develop knowledge exchange activities with external stakeholders.
