To be successful you will be a hands-on experimental scientist with the drive to solve difficult scientific and technological problems. If you are motivated by working in a high calibre, highly collaborative research environment, then this position provides an exciting environment.

You will demonstrate experience in one of the following fields:

  • femtosecond laser direct writing 
  • fundamentals of light-mater interactions 
  • nonlinear optics
  • ultrafast optics including few-cycle pulses

Ideally you will also have experience in:

  • micro- and nano-optics 
  • optical engineering
  • ultrafast laser material processing

It is essential you have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Physics or Electronic and Optical Engineering, along with a good track record of innovative research at an international level. Experience of highly effective working in teams, working with ultrafast laser systems and have a track record of independently setting up complex optical experiments. Experience of working in a large team would be highly beneficial.

The post will be based in the Optoelectronic Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton and available as a result of a research programme sponsored by the European Research Council. The post is available on a fixed term basis until 31/12/2024 due to funding restrictions.
