Director of Recruitment and Admissions

Founded in 1895, the LSE is a specialist social science university with 29 academic departments and institutes, 19 research centres and many more research units and groups. It has seven academic partnerships with universities across the world including the University of California, Berkeley, Peking University (Beijing) and the National University of Singapore. In 2021, the LSE became the first Carbon Neutral verified university in the UK.

With 18 Nobel Prize winners and 37 past or present heads of state, the LSE is a truly influential and international university at the forefront of global policy debate. An LSE education provides students with a research-led, disciplinary and interdisciplinary experience, encouraging learners to engage critically with their subjects and real-world challenges, equipping them professionally and personally for the world into which they will graduate.

The LSE is now looking to appoint a new Director of Recruitment and Admissions (DoRA). This is a senior role in the Academic Registrar’s Division (ARD) and the School with responsibility for student marketing and recruitment, financial support, widening participation, and admissions. The postholder will report to the Academic Registrar and liaise with other senior School officers, including relevant Pro-Directors and the LSE Global Director of Development who leads all philanthropy activity at the School.

The postholder will be responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive recruitment, widening access and admissions strategies for all levels of study. This work will enable the School to achieve its long-term ambitions of attracting talented students from around the globe and remaining competitive in a global market place.

The successful candidate will be one of the Academic Registrar’s four deputies who serve on the division’s senior management team. As the central senior manager responsible for pre-arrival services and the applicant experience, they will lead and contribute to relevant ‘Educate for Global Impact’ (EGI) strategic initiatives.  The successful DoRA will have excellent communication skills, and be able to motivate and lead colleagues; they will also be accustomed to strategizing on and implementing change management projects.
