MSc Course Director in Integrated Immunology

Grade 9 (£48,835-£56,587, up to £61,818 in the discretionary range)
Location: The John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DU
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: Full time

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced immunologist and educator to join the University of Oxford as an MSc Director. In the first year you will work alongside the incumbent MSc Director, who will retire at the end of academic year 2022-23, to co-lead the established full-time MSc in Integrated Immunology. Additionally, you will focus during this time on developing and delivering a new, part-time, distance-learning variant of this MSc course. Beyond this you will have opportunities to provide input into new postgraduate courses as they are developed over the coming years.

In your role you will work closely with the part-time clinical Co-Director, the lead MSc Administrator and a part-time administrative assistant. You will develop the future strategic vision for both MSc courses with the Co-Director; oversee all aspects of curriculum development, and the teaching, learning and assessment activities; coordinate in-person and remote MSc research project placements; oversee and conduct admissions; ensure EDI compliance at all times; and liaise with other colleagues within the department and at all levels of the collegiate University as necessary.

The course will normally be based in dedicated, newly-refurbished premises of the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. For the postholder, the Department has a flexible working policy and supports hybrid working practices.  This full-time, permanent post is available immediately.

About you
The postholder will fulfill our essential criteria, and is also likely to satisfy some of our desirable criteria, as follow.

  • A broad understanding of fundamental and/or clinical immunology, ideally with specialist expertise in a relevant area(s).
  • Familiarity with principles of online course design and development.

  • Significant experience of Higher Education, particularly at the graduate level.
  • A higher degree (e.g. PhD or DPhil) in immunology, biomedical sciences or other relevant subject.

Desirable selection criteria

  • Experience of leading an academic MSc programme, including setting the strategic direction and vision of the course.
