Job Details

Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering

This project is on the development and application of molecular-simulation methods for the simulation of interfaces involving liquids - with the liquids in contact with both solids and gases with nanoscale features and geometries, e.g., vacancies, bubbles, nanoscale ridges, droplets, etc.

Several projects are of interest to Prof. English's research group under this important theme, embracing both theoretical and experimental approaches, and this project will contribute to molecular-simulation aspects of this. In particular, machine-learning approaches will be applied towards force-field development.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

  • DFT, tight-binding and empirical-potential molecular-dynamics simulation of nanoscale interfaces in contact with liquids
  • Non-equilbrium MD in external fields and perturbations of such surfaces/interfaces
  • Development of tailor-made force-fields from machine-learning approaches of such interfaces
  • Discussions with experimentalists probing such interfaces, as well as collaborative projects with them

Fixed salary: €39,522 per annum
