Overview

WAAPA is an internationally renowned performing arts institution within Edith Cowan University. Arts Management graduates hold senior management and marketing positions at prestigious arts and entertainment organisations and businesses throughout the world, including Opera Australia, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Belvoir St Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Dubai Opera, Mullinars Casting, Sydney Opera House, The Tate UK, WA Opera, West Australia Symphony Orchestra, Black Swan State Theatre Company and Perth Theatre Trust. The School provides the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia with Dance, Theatre, Music Theatre and more alongside our Music degrees. Our world-class staff provide rigorous and specialised training of the highest order, supporting our students to realise their artistic dreams. WAAPA’s Arts Management training prepares students to enter many branches of the arts and creative industries. After extensive industry and stakeholder review, the new Bachelor of Arts (Arts and Cultural Management) will commence in 2023.

Students develop professional knowledge and skills in arts and cultural management, marketing, finance and legal compliance, and at every stage of the course apply what they learn to industry practicums. The course has a strong focus on social and cultural sustainability, creativity and innovation, and emerging digital arts experiences. By engaging with corporate and community partners from diverse industry environments and workplaces, the course prepares students for employment in a diverse range of positions within large and small companies, institutions and organisations, nationally and internationally.

As part of an exciting expansion plan, WAAPA will move into its brand-new world-class city campus in Yagan Square in the Perth CBD in 2025. This Creative Industries, Law, Business and Technology Campus will be where innovative thinkers, adaptive learners and global citizens meet to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. ECU’s CBD campus will bring together streams of teaching and research with unique synergies for growth and development. This is unequivocally the most exciting time of all to join the university as it embarks on this further growth and transformational journey.
