Job description
Edinburgh Napier’s School of Applied Sciences is recognised for the quality of the educational provision we offer, the employability of our graduates and the international reputation and partnerships we have.

You would be joining the Psychology department at a time of growth within our provision both in Edinburgh and overseas. As a result, we are recruiting a new Lecturer to become a valued member of the Psychology team. The Psychology department has significant modern laboratory and research facilities to support the group’s research and teaching activities. We welcome applicants with research interests in any area of psychology and would be very interested to hear from applicants whose research/experience could support our growing area of Forensic Psychology.

We value international perspectives in our teaching, both for our local students and for students on our Transnational Education Programmes in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Edinburgh Napier University’s phenomenal results from the Research Excellence Framework (2021) are testament to our growing strength and capability as a research institution.

REF 2021 assessed 68% of our research as either “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”, up 15% since 2014. Additionally, the University’s research power metric rocketed from 250 to 718, making Edinburgh Napier the top ranking Scottish modern university for both research power and research impact.

The University’s improved power rating will now see our research funding increase as we take significant strides to grow our reputation as a research-focused institution as well as a teaching one. We are confident that we are well on our way to establishing ourselves as one of the UK’s world-leading universities in research.

The role

As a Lecturer in Psychology, you will join our vibrant Psychology team. You can find more details relating to the research activity and staff interest on our blog and university webpage. Within this role, you will conduct individual and collaborative research projects, contributing to the excellent research profile within our School, leading to the production of high quality and impactful research outputs.

You will be responsible for developing, designing, and delivering teaching and student-centred learning underpinned by academic scholarship and professional practice within your assigned areas of responsibility. These will include possible contributions to our undergraduate BPS accredited Psychology and Psychology with Sociology programmes, our BPS accredited MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology, and our MSc in Applied Criminology and Forensic Psychology.

Who we are looking for

We will look for demonstrable evidence of research or teaching specialisation in Psychology and we would be keen to receive applications from candidates that complement or enhance the expertise of our team, particularly if they align with areas of Forensic Psychology. Candidates with experience of qualitative and quantitative psychological research methods are welcomed. You must provide evidence of a professional academic research profile that is commensurate with the stage of your career alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.

You will hold a doctoral level qualification in a relevant Psychology discipline evidencing sufficient breadth and depth of experience in Psychology subject areas to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes and have experience of research-informed teaching and/or training.

You must be able to demonstrate evidence of teaching and learning enhancement initiatives you have developed or been involved in which will directly support the University Strategy of enhancing student experience and increasing graduate employability.
