Lecturer (Assistant Professor)/Associate Professor in Computational Fluid Dynamics for Aerospace Engineering 

The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Associate Professor in numerical simulations of reacting and/or multiphase flows. Candidates should have expertise in development and application of novel numerical tools and data-driven modelling strategies to explore particle, heat, scalar and mass-transfer in fluid flows. We welcome applicants with background/experience in the following topics:

• High-speed reacting flows including aerothermochemistry and development of relevant flow/chemistry models
• Multiphase flows including particle-turbulence interactions, atomisation, and phase-change
• Heat-transfer, noise and aerothermodynamics relevant to next generation of propulsion systems including turbomachinery, rockets, ramjets, scramjets etc.

Individuals with expertise and experience in multiple above-mentioned areas are particularly encouraged to apply.    

The department has research strength in Aerodynamics, Astronautics and Computational Engineering and the successful candidate would sit at the interface of all three groups. The department is part of the School of Engineering with inter-disciplinary research interests across different application areas. We have complementary strengths in aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, astronautics, additive manufacturing, autonomous vehicles, battery technologies, design and optimisation, fluid-structure interactions, materials science, and mechatronics. The University is home to IRIDIS5, which is one of the largest computational facilities in the UK.
