Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Quantum Information Theory

About the opportunity
Applications are invited for the appointment of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level B) in Quantum Information Theory at the Quantum Physics Research Group, School of Physics. Our theory group leads core research projects in the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS), as well a number of other large international programs. The theory group is led by Professor Stephen Bartlett and Professor Andrew Doherty.
We require two postdoctoral theorists to undertake research in quantum information theory. Your key responsibilities will be to:
- demonstrate research excellence and publish original research
- develop research collaborations within EQUS and with other universities and industry
- participate in research student supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate level
- develop your profile through conferences and seminars
- contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive research environment within the Quantum Physics Research Group.

- a PhD in Physics or a related discipline (or near completion)
- a strong background in quantum information theory or related areas
- the skill to clearly express ideas and communicate within a team environment
- the ability to work independently on problems, and motivate junior members of the team
- the capability to see the bigger picture, and have vision for the future development of the project
- a demonstrated capacity to conduct theoretical research in quantum information theory.
Desirable criteria include:
- demonstrated capacity to co-supervise research students on projects in this area, with assistance and mentoring from senior academic staff
- familiarity with the theoretical methods of quantum error correction, and the theory of fault-tolerant quantum computing
- background in quantum information theory as applied to quantum many body systems and spin lattices.
