Applications are invited for appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in Construction Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref. 515742), to commence on 1 September 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.  The post will be on a two-year fixed-term basis.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Building Engineering, Construction, Computing, or related fields, with expertise in construction artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.  An interdisciplinary background in construction informatics and robotics, including but not limited to robot positioning and navigation, AI-driven construction waste sorting, computer vision, unmanned aerial vehicles, building information modelling, digital twin, and augmented reality, is required.  Applicants should have relevant post-doctoral experience with proven ability to publish/disseminate research outcomes on top journals/conference.  They should also have the ability to work independently and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the ability to collaborate with external parties including academics and industry practitioners, and excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese. 

The appointee will conduct research with a focus on developing AI and robotics technologies to improve productivity of construction projects.  He/She is expected to develop his/her research in the context of iLab@HKUrbanLabs, an urban big data as well as research hub housed on the 7th floor of the Knowles Building in the University.  It is the home of more than HK$40 million research grants related to BIM, blockchain, construction informatics, construction logistics and supply chain management, and big data-enabled urban environmental management.  Information about iLab@HKUrbanLabs is available at

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment on fixed-terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
