Due to Edinburgh Napier University’s excellent results from the Research Excellent Framework (REF) and teaching success, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Drug Discovery and Pharmaceutical Science to join our expanding team in the School of Applied Sciences, to develop and deliver high-quality teaching and assessment to support our postgraduate and undergraduate programmes.   

At the School of Applied Sciences putting theory into practice is our guiding ethos, using science to help you make a difference. Our £60Million, purpose-built science and health campus in Sighthill houses a full range of cutting-edge facilities where staff, students and researchers tackle global and local issues affecting health, society and the environment. New laboratories available from September 2022 will expand our provision for teaching and research in pharmaceutical science, drug discovery and development.

The Role 
This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop and deliver module content, supervise and support student project work in the laboratory and be involved in programme leadership and development. 

The role particularly focuses on providing a significant contribution to the MSc courses that we run, including the 2-year MSc in Pharmaceutical & Analytical Science, and MSc Drug Design and Biomedical Science. These include modules in Analytical Methods in Drug Development, Quality Control & Pharmaceutical Analysis, Current Practice in Drug Development, Drug Design and Chemotherapy, Biotechnology & Drug Discovery, Current Research in Pharmaceutical Science and Pharmaceutics: small- and macro-molecules, but you would also be involved in other relevant teaching on our postgraduate and undergraduate courses.

This role allows you to make a significant contribution to research and/or scholarship depending on the Academic Pathway aligns to you and provides the opportunity to make an impact through providing our students with an outstanding learning experience. 

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in organic chemistry relating to drug design, medicinal chemistry, formulation and analytical methods or biomaterials science and it would be desirable to have insights into biopharmaceuticals and current industry practices.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of development and delivery of module teaching and assessment in relevant areas of drug discovery and pharmaceutical science, along with support of student project work or equivalent experience in delivering training
  • Evidence of commitment to enhancement and innovation in teaching and contribution to programme leadership and development
  • Clearly identified ability to complement and enhance existing research and scholarship within the School
  • An established collaborative network, with potential for expanding collaboration within the School and external partners

Benefits we offer

Salary: £40,927 - £50,296 per annum (Grade 6)
