The appointee will 1) join cruises to conduct borehole drilling and geophysical survey to characterize three-dimensional hydrogeology and geochemistry of the offshore aquifer systems; 2) perform numerical modeling to reconstruct the evolution of the offshore groundwater in response to sea level change in recent geological history; and 3) author peer-reviewed papers in refereed international journals.

The appointee will play a key role in the following multidisciplinary research projects funded by General Research Fund, Hong Kong Grant Council and by National Natural Science Foundation of China, which provide partial financial support for this position: “The province, discharge and evolution of the offshore groundwater system, and its bio-geochemical implications in the Pearl River Estuary and the adjacent continental shelf” and “Occurrence, transport, and transformation of methane in the marine sediments in the Pearl River Estuary”.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in hydrogeology, or a closely related field with significant research experience in field hydrogeological studies, numerical modeling of coastal groundwater systems. The candidate should be a well motivated scholar with strong computing, field and communication skills.
