  • We are searching for a Research Centre Director to provide high quality academic, strategic and operational leadership to strengthen the Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research’s capacity and capability for research and translation, community engagement and professional development.

The University of Western Australia is a leading global university, renowned for excellence in education and research. UWA is among the top 100 universities in the world, number one in Western Australia and is one of Australia’s most respected research institutions.

The School of Psychological Science has a long history of excellence in research and education. The School has a reputation as an international research leader (being ranked 48th  in the world in the prestigious QS World University Rankings 2022), and many of its activities focus on the translation of fundamental science to understand and provide evidence-based solutions for local and global challenges. In the School, research informs practice across areas such as road safety, leadership and teamwork, defence, mental health and wellbeing, and clinical applications.

The Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research (WACRSR) was established in 2019 to conduct research into new and innovative approaches to road safety that will ultimately contribute to the aspiration of zero people being killed or seriously injured while using our roads. A multi-disciplinary team of experts in fields such as psychology, epidemiology, human factors, mathematics/statistics, and engineering undertake programs of research which support the National Road Safety Strategy and State Government Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan. Research is critical for the achievement of zero road trauma.

About the opportunity

As Director, you will use your leadership skills to develop Western Australia’s road safety research capacity and capability. Your proven track record of research and translation in road safety or relevant areas will enable you to build and sustain productive relationships with external stakeholders in academia, government, industry, and the community. You will foster a supportive working environment that allows the Centre to deliver high quality research and meet the expectations of external stakeholders, including the WA Government and other funding bodies based on an agreed plan of research and capacity building.
