Head of Department, Engineering & Maths

Competitive salary and benefits

With a student community of 33,000, 4,500 staff, and an annual turnover of over £300m we are a thriving and vibrant organisation based in the heart of Sheffield.

Our aim is simple - to transform lives, shaping futures for our students and the Sheffield City Region, creating knowledge which makes a real difference, and being a beacon for what a world-leading applied university can achieve. Woven into the fabric and culture of Sheffield and the surrounding area, we are a university making a profound difference in leading improvements in social mobility, quality of life and the economy through the impact of our students, research and partnerships.

Sat within the College of Business, Technology and Engineering the Department of Engineering and Maths brings together a wide range of courses in engineering, mathematics and technology, all regularly updated and accredited with professional institutions. We work in partnership with a number of leading organisations including Rolls-Royce, Tata Steel, Kimberly Clark, JCB and Network Rail. Research and Innovation in the Department has a long history in Materials Engineering, aligning with UKRI priority areas of Manufacturing the Future.

We are now looking to recruit an exceptional academic leader to further develop and deliver our academic strategy in the Department. Reporting to the Dean of the College, you will work closely with other senior members of the College Leadership Team and form part of the University’s Senior Leaders’ Group. The Head of Department will help shape and implement the University’s academic strategy within Engineering and Maths, ensuring our continuing success in teaching and learning, business and enterprise, global and academic partnerships and research to secure the achievement of the University’s vision and goals.

Candidates will bring academic credibility and intellectual standing in an area relevant to the department and evidence of leading and managing academic colleagues. Already at the forefront of sector thinking in much of what we do – in our approach to organisation, in our achievements in widening participation, in our local and global partnerships, in our work with employers– we are looking to recruit a dynamic and collaborative leader who can help shape the future, not only of the Department and the College but also that of the University.

If you have vision, passion, creativity and determination to make a difference - we want to hear from you. For more information, please visit www.andersonquigley.com/candidates using reference AQ1417.

The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 8 August

We particularly welcome applications from minority ethnic and female applicants who are underrepresented in this area at Sheffield Hallam.
