Applications are invited for a Temporary 45 month post of a Senior IT Specialist within UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering

UCD School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering is seeking to appoint an IT systems administrator. The successful candidate will be a key member of the School who will support colleagues across the School and is expected to be contributing to the continuing effective operation of a busy research and teaching activities of the school.

The IT systems administrator will be supporting day-to-day IT activities and further developing a high availability IT infrastructure concomitant with a world-class University School/Department. This includes, but is not limited to, providing day-to-day user/system/software support/development for 1) office and research laboratory laptops/desktops, including ancillary equipment, 2) enterprise-compute resources (inc. HPC), 3) storage and archiving architectures and 4) audio-visual resources.

While the candidate is expected to be suitably technically adept, they should also be skilled in time-management to balance the various duties of this role as well as applying creative thought to solve complex computing challenges. Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and an eagerness to learn and grow in the role.

Specific responsibility includes, but is not limited to, implementation, support and administration of enterprise-compute systems, licence servers, networks, Windows and Unix systems-admin, and High-Performance Computing Linux clusters & infrastructure. Familiarity with Windows systems is important (e.g., driver software, etc). For Linux-based HPC, this includes clustered servers, high-performance data storage, networking equipment (e.g., Network/Infiniband switches). Experience in technical procurement and maintenance of computer systems is another key function, as well as good skills in computer, IT and audio-visual training/support. The successful appointee will be very important in helping the School to build relationships with UCD IT Services, and will have a keen interest in building strong, collaborative relationships with UCD Engineering and the wider University.

95 Administrative Officer I\2010 Salary scale: €45,565 - €61,775 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
