Research Assistant, Nuclear Policy Research

Overview

The Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative (SNRSI), a research institute within the National University of Singapore, is fully funded by the government and is tasked with building national capabilities in nuclear safety. The Nuclear Policy Research Group (NPRG) within SNRSI aims to bridge the gap between technical research and nuclear policy by exploring research in areas such as nuclear governance, safety, security, safeguards, and public perception.

We are seeking a researcher-cum-information manager to participate in research projects and consolidate information relevant to the group’s information projects.

Responsibilities

  • Implement research plans
  • Deploy data collection strategies including those involving human subjects, various survey methods, interview protocols, and literature reviews Interact with research subjects, including government officials and other subject matter experts, in the research process and with research sponsors in communicating results
  • Coordinate the implementation of any quality management approaches
  • Manage research-related information of interest to the whole group, supporting the management and researchers
  • Keep a record of programmes and key information on the group’s activities and projects (such as key documents, objectives, milestones, meetings, events)
  • Assemble and maintain a calendar of events of interest to the group, including events organized by SNRSI as well as external events relevant to nuclear policy.
  • Prepare an external version of this calendar, for distribution to partners and stakeholders
  • Prepare reports or documents as needed for internal use or external distribution Identify and specify IT-related needs in the group, implement tools to satisfy them
  • Define and manage information projects, including identifying needs, defining requirements, identify suitable technical solutions, interact with IT experts as necessary
  • Take lead for a data repository project

Qualifications

  • Minimally a good Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, physics or related technical discipline.
  • Understanding and knowledge of a broad range of topics in nuclear science and engineering such as: reactor and fuel cycle technology, other applications of radiation, effects of radiation and radiation protection, relevant environmental science, nuclear safety.
  • Some expertise in the specific topics listed above will be an advantage.
  • Awareness and understanding of the broad issues associated with nuclear energy such as: history and trends, industry, economics, global dimension and geopolitics, risks and benefits, political and societal issues associated with nuclear energy.
  • General awareness and understanding of national and international issues for the governance of nuclear energy such as: national responsibilities, international frameworks.
  • Understanding of information management methods and the underlying information technology, ability to exchange and work with IT experts as an intelligent customer.
  • Advanced experience as an IT user and direct experience in IT projects would be an advantage.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
  • Additional fluency in any other South-East Asian language would be a bonus.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
