The post holder is a member of the Faculty’s professional services team, providing high quality technical support to the Faculty and specific support to its education and/or research activities.

Job Specifics

  • The role will entail collection and cleaning of laboratory glassware, and to facilitate the disposal of laboratory waste by collection and sterilization by autoclave.
  • The postholder will maintain stocks of consumables in the Research Laboratories
  • The postholder will begin to undertake additional responsibilities as determined by the operations manager and to demonstrate job based acquired knowledge to enable more in depth laboratory support.
  • The postholder will collect and/or transport goods from the central store and may include ordering via the College purchasing system.
  • Upon training and direction to make, sterilise & deliver media to the Faculty Research Laboratories.

This post could be offered at a grade 2, or a grade 3 subject to your experience provided in your application, and at the interview. 
The salary will be discussed at the offer stage, if you are appointed.
This is a full-time  post working 35 hours per week, and will be offered on an indefinite contract.

 

Key responsibilities

  • The collection and disposal of laboratory waste including sterilization by autoclave.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria  

  1. Good command of written and spoken English 
  2. Good command of basic numeracy 
  3. Experience of working in a research environment 
  4. Ability to learn and assimilate information quickly 
  5. Able to use a computer 
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  7. Ability to multi-task and deal with a varied work load 

Desirable criteria

  1. Understanding of Biological Research 
  2. Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
