Post-doctoral Research Fellow
Applications are invited for a Temporary Fixed term post until 31 August 2024 of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Mathematics & Statistics
The UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics is seeking to recruit a Post-doctoral Researcher in Mathematics Education. Applicants should have experience in post-primary Mathematics pedagogy, designing and implementing educative Mathematics materials, and related research skills.
This is a temporary, 2-year Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 post funded by the Irish Research Council. The successful candidate will work on a number of specified tasks including: investigating Mathematics teaching and learning in case-study schools, designing and evaluating educative materials related to Mathematics pedagogy, and designing and evaluating a model of school-based, collaborative teacher education to involve research Mathematicians.
This is an opportunity to develop state of the art research-based pedagogical tools to improve the learning experiences of students, specifically those in schools designated as socio-economically underprivileged, and to develop Mathematics teachers' knowledge and skills. The role will involve working collaboratively with schools, teachers, and research Mathematicians, bridging the research-practice divide in classroom pedagogy and content.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
- Identifying and working with case study schools
- Liaising with project advisory committee
- Submitting research ethics reviews to UCD
- Facilitating education workshops for pilot schools with participating research Mathematicians
Post-Doc Level 1 Salary range: €39,522 - €45,610 per annum
Post-Doc Level 2 Fixed Salary: €46,906
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
