The fixed term position is available starting on 1 January 2023. The position is for four years (residency) with a purpose to prepare for the ECAR specialization degree examination (ECAR residency training program). The resident is expected to teach comparative clinical reproduction in most important domestic animal species (bovine, ovine, equine, porcine, canine and feline reproduction) and to a lesser degree in exotic animals. In addition, the resident is supposed to learn issues related to reproductive biotechnology (such as AI, germ cell evaluation methods, ovum pick-up and embryo transfer). The task involves carrying out clinical research in one of the strong areas of Animal Reproduction Science unit at the University of Helsinki as defined by the unit.

The position is at the department of Production Animal Medicine in the Animal Reproduction Science unit, which is an ECAR (European College of Animal Reproduction) registered residency training institute. The institute (ARS) is qualified to train resident in all five focus areas of ECAR and the institute and it is well equipped for training clinical reproduction in domestic animal species and related research (for instance, there is newly established Androvision equipment for automated germ cell evaluation). The residency is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic veterinarian interested in clinical reproduction.

According to the rules of ECAR, a resident is expected to work with comparative reproduction in most significant domestic animal species and focus on one of the specialist areas as defined by the college (equine, ruminant, porcine or small animal reproduction or reproductive biotechnology). At the end of the residency, the candidate is expected to sit in the board examination organized by ECAR. The examination involves 60 % of questions in comparative clinical animal reproduction and 40 % of questions in the focus area as opted by the candidate. A successful applicant is expected to be involved in undergraduate teaching at the veterinary faculty and carry out research in clinical animal reproduction as according to a residency plan.
