We are looking for an enthusiastic, team-focused, experienced individual to lead our Library Collections and Researcher Services portfolio.

In this position, you will play a key role in developing strategy, policy and frameworks for Library initiatives to advance the University’s teaching and research mission.

With Scholarly Collections, you will provide the vision and leadership in the acquisition and stewardship of rich and diverse collections for which the University Library is responsible, including special archival and cultural collections. In this position, you will play a key role in developing strategy, policy and frameworks for library initiatives to advance the University’s research mission. In supporting the University’s broader research and e-research agenda the role provides strategic leadership and value-adding initiatives for research infrastructure and services, including the University repository (OPaL), bibliometrics and research impact, researcher training, research data management, digitisation, and digital preservation

The incumbent, as a member of the Library Executive Team is required to provide high level strategic advice to the University Librarian on Library planning, scholarly research and collections matters; and to represent the University at key industry and sector forums.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • Postgraduate qualification with significant leadership and senior management experience in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities including the ability to lead, motivate and develop effective teams of specialists from diverse disciplines that work in libraries, archives, special and cultural collections
  • High level awareness of international standards, trends and developments in research and research libraries, particularly in research services and collections; and an ability to provide high level advice and strategic leadership in these areas for the University Library
  • Extensive experience in financial management and resource allocation, including managing large and complex resource budgets involving complex international procurement
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience in negotiations, managing vendor relationships and professional relationships with other major libraries, archives and cultural institutions
  • Demonstrated track record in collaborative and collegial contribution to a senior leadership team, and ability to contribute to the organisational growth of the University Library and demonstrate its value to the broader University
