About the opportunity

The University of Sydney's Brain and Mind Centre is a centre for discovery, innovation and integrative research strategies, clinical product development and actions that translate research into improved treatment and disease prevention strategies. The centre is made up of 27 research units, staffed by around 200 researchers and 100 students.

The Mental Wealth Initiative (MWI) is a group established by the Brain and Mind Centre at the University of Sydney in 2020. This is a collaboration between the Sydney Business School and the Brain and Mind Centre. We work with leaders in government, business, mental health, and social policy across communities, to establish the national and regional infrastructure needed to measure, monitor, and forecast the Mental Wealth of the nation and help identify policy opportunities to foster this broader measure of our national prosperity.

We are seeking a Systems Modelling Research Associate to work on exciting projects in collaboration with A/Professor Jo-An Occhipinti, Dr Adam Skinner and Professor Ian Hickie to research a range of issues pertaining to the MWI.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake system dynamics modelling to evaluate strategic policy and planning initiatives to improve youth mental health across diverse contexts
  • engage in participatory approaches to model building, in partnership with key healthcare decision makers and consumers
  • work within a team of systems modelers, senior academics, data scientists and clinicians to deliver high quality research outputs

About you

  • hold or working towards a PhD in Population Health/Public Health, Systems Science, or Data Science
  • experience in undertaking system dynamics modelling or a researcher with sound data analytic skills who is interested in training in system dynamics modelling
  • a strong applied research and service orientation with an ability to build successful working relationships with a variety of people, both internal and external
  • experience with Stella Architect software desirable but not essential
  • knowledge and /or experience in Epidemiology and/or Biostatistics, relevant to population health
  • proven high level analytical skills and a methodical approach to data management and analysis
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills
