About the opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship academic research organisation within the University of Sydney. The CTC conducts research to improve global health outcomes, bringing together world-leading experts in clinical trials (design, methods, conduct), biostatistics, patient-reported outcomes, health economics, translational research, research synthesis, and health technology assessment.

We are seeking a Research Operations Manager (0091305) who will be responsible for the overall management, co-ordination and administration of the operations of a number of translational research (TR) projects within clinical trials or stand-alone translational research projects relevant to a specific research therapeutic area.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide oversight on the Translational Research component of a number of clinical trials in one or more of the clinical trial programs
  • establish and maintain effective relationships with translational research program stakeholders, clinical trial program stakeholders, including external sponsors, collaborative groups, pharmaceutical companies, trial management committees, CTC directors, Clinical Trial Program Managers and CTC Functional Heads
  • provide leadership, direction and supervision of the TR team members
  • develop the TR component of clinical trial budgets and costings in close collaboration with the Academic TR Lead/Fellow and Research Development Lead
  • liaise with, and report to, key internal and external stakeholders on TR progress and issues, ensuring trial protocol and lab manual compliance and adherence to milestones, timelines and contractual obligations
  • provide administrative and other support tasks associated with the TR component of clinical trials.

  • Knowledge of translational research and clinical trial requirements during their lifecycle from start up to close out, including a detailed understanding of the regulatory and ethical approval process
  • minimum three years of relevant working experience in Translational Research management, as a project manager, senior TR operations coordinator, senior researcher, research assistant or similar role
  • financial management experience and literacy, experience in managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure
  • demonstrated ability to effectively work as part of a team, and to support and develop team members in their activities and professional development
  • exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to be able to demonstrate a level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.
