The Department was first established as the “Translation Programme” in 1990, and was awarded full independent departmental status in 2019. During our more than 30-year history, we have built a reputation as a leading centre for teaching and research in Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies, and were ranked 4-star (world-leading) for Research Environment and Research Impact in the Hong Kong 2020 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The Department offers teaching at BA, MA and Research Postgraduate levels, and is among the most internationalised in the region, with an academic staff comprising members from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, the UK, Spain, North Macedonia and Australia. The Department has particular strengths in literary translation, minority cultures in translation, interpreting, and translation technology.
Lecturer II in Translation (PR0824/21-22)
The Department is now seeking applicants for the above position. Applicants from all areas of the discipline will be considered.
The appointee will undertake teaching at undergraduate and master’s levels as appropriate, and will be responsible for delivery of the BA Programme’s internship scheme, including supervision and quality control of student output. He/She will also be required to supervise undergraduate honours projects and MA translation projects, take on certain administrative duties and perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants should possess a master’s degree or above in Translation or other relevant fields, and should have teaching experience at the tertiary level. Preference will be given to those with expertise in teaching general introductory and practical translation courses, as well as courses in Chinese/English bilingual communication. Experience in teaching or supervising experiential learning components would be an advantage, as would industry experience in liaising with external clients.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one year commencing in September 2022. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to service need, performance review, mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
