Are you looking for a role in a thriving school in a Russell Group University? Do you have significant expertise in research in teaching English to speakers of other languages? Are you passionate about developing outstanding language teachers? Do you have a strong, growing and potentially world-leading research record and a commitment to securing research funding in language education, TESOL pedagogy or language teacher development? Are you delivering an exceptional student learning experience through your outstanding teaching and support?

The University of Leeds is one of the top 100 universities in the world. We have a truly global community, with more than 39,000 students from 170 different countries and over 9,000 staff of 100 different nationalities. Established in 1904, we have a strong tradition of academic excellence, reflected in first-class student education, along with world-leading research that has a real impact around the globe.

As a School of Education within an international, research-intensive university, we have a strong commitment to research-led education. We aim to provide an inclusive working and teaching environment that attracts, supports and retains the best staff and students from all backgrounds. We select candidates on the basis of merit and ability, and aspire to further diversify our School and Faculty community. We particularly welcome applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been under-represented in the University including, but not limited to: Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and disabled people.

We are looking for someone able to maintain a research agenda in TESOL that extends and develops our reputation as an internationally excellent centre for language education, working with language teachers who come to us from all over the world. As Professor, the appointee will initiate and lead in their area of teaching and research particularly at postgraduate level and contribute to the School’s strategic direction, attracting research funding, developing collaborations and extending the impact of the School’s work in TESOL as appropriate.

The School undertakes excellent research and teaching in a wide range of education-related fields. The Language Education Team is recognised nationally and internationally for its teaching, research, knowledge transfer and consultancy work in TESOL, ELT, EFL, ESOL, EAL, Modern Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics. Our research explores a broad range of issues across the discipline.
