About the Role

Swinburne University has a unique opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work as part of a multidisciplinary team at the Centre for Information Resilience (CIRES). The Centre aims at building workforce capacity in Australian organisations to create, protect and sustain agile data pipelines, capable of detecting and responding to failures and risks across the information value chain in which the data is sourced, shared, transformed, analysed and consumed. CIRES is an Australian Research Council (ARC) Industrial Transformation Training Centre, established in partnership with the Swinburne University of Technology and the University of Queensland.

This position is currently located at the Hawthorn campus, however you may be required to undertake duties at any of the universitys campuses, or visit the Centre partners in Queensland. Thus, the incumbent must be willing to travel and work at a range of locations.

About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated experience in computer programming and big data analytics
  • People skills. The ability to relate well to a variety of people from data science, humanities and social science backgrounds, and understand their data needs. Good oral and written communication skills in dealing with external contacts.
  • A demonstrated high degree of organisational and administrative skill to manage complex research projects including the ability to design and conduct research within a team environment, the ability to identify complementary expertise, and the ability to initiate appropriate collaborations.           
  • Demonstrated research project operational attributes including personal resourcefulness, individual initiative, ability to work independently and the ability to complete research deliverables with tight deadlines.

Qualifications

A PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Development, Statistics, or a related data intensive field, or in the Social Sciences with a strong quantitative focus.
