The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries. An opportunity has arisen for a scientist with a background in biological sciences and having relevant experience and vision to work with a small team of natural scientists to deliver research in the area of plant molecular biology, plant virology, vector entomology, biotechnology and crop protection. This person will take part in on-going research programmes to assist NRI in collaborations with national and international organisations to improve food security through better crop management strategies. The post requires developing innovative multidisciplinary concepts with other members of the team that can lead to externally-funded projects.

The successful candidate will join the Agriculture, Health and Environment Department, which has a well-established group working on many aspects of plant protection, and is particularly concerned with applying molecular biotechnological knowledge for reducing crop losses.  You will have a PhD, with years of proven research experience in molecular biology, plant virology or vector entomology, and a good record of scientific publication. The position may involve occasional short-term overseas travel.

The post is fixed term until 31 May 2025. Interview dates to be advised.

Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Professor Maruthi Gowda, email: M.N.Maruthi@greenwich.ac.uk
