The University is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Professor/Research Assistant Professor in Sociology and Social Policy, with specialization in any of the following areas: (i) social studies of health and medicine; (ii) science, technology and society; (iii) social gerontology.
Candidates should have
- a PhD in sociology, social policy or related disciplines;
- a good track record in the relevant areas;
- a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals of good international standing and/or university presses;
- a good track record in competitive grant applications in the relevant areas; and
- professional knowledge of the relevant areas.
The appointee will join the Faculty of Social Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/socsc/) and will be expected to conduct research projects and publish outputs with high impact, teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and participate in academic and professional activities. In particular, the appointee is expected to apply for external competitive grant, and commit to teaching excellence and active services to the Faculty and the University. Candidates are required to provide evidence of their research records and quality teaching. A proven record in academic leadership and institutional service would be a distinct advantage. Short-listed candidates will be requested to provide a sample course syllabus in the relevant field before the interview.
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
For the post of Assistant Professor, appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years; subject to review and mutual agreement, it may normally lead to longer-term appointment with possibility of consideration for substantiation.
