We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to manage a range of projects focused on prevention and treatment of anxiety, depression and dementia in older adults as part of an MRFF Emerging Leadership Fellowship awarded to Professor Viviana Wuthrich. Projects include screening for mental disorders and risk factors for dementia in primary care settings, developing and evaluating interventions to prevent and treat risk, and investigating underlying causes of anxiety, depression and dementia in older adults.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for managing large datasets, designing and conducting experiments, running statistical analyses, liaising with partner organisations, clinicians and consumers, including running focus groups and supervising students. The postdoctoral research will also have the opportunity to lead side projects relevant to the overarching projects, as well as collaborate on other projects run in the Centre for Ageing, Cognition and Wellbeing.

About You

You will have completed a PhD in psychology. You will have strong research skills and a capacity to coordinate complex projects. Applicants with research interests in older adults, mental health, risk reduction for dementia, early intervention, biopsychosocial assessment, data linkage, and interdisciplinary research will thrive in this position and are strongly encouraged to apply. You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, a team player and the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

The School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University offers accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Psychology to satisfy the requirements for registration as a psychologist. It is a research-intensive department that is home to the Centre for Emotional Health, and the Centre for Ageing, Cognition and Wellbeing, and other highly productive research groups and laboratories, with a state-of-the-art simulation precinct. The department is part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

Essential:

  • A PhD in Psychology
  • A strong record of contributions to peer reviewed publications and history of research excellence, relative to experience and opportunity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Proven experience in co-ordinating research projects

Desirable:

  • Research expertise in older adult mental health, cognitive decline and/or dementia prevention
  • Clinical training in mental health, behaviour change and/or dementia assessment and treatment
  • Strong statistical data analysis skills
  • Experience working with large datasets
