Geochemistry Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship - School of Ocean and Earth Science

The University of Southampton requires an apprentice to join its technical support team within the School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES). You will be based at the Waterfront Campus, providing technical support to the Geochemistry Research Group and its wide range of research activities including topics such as atmospheric carbon dioxide capture and sourcing metals critical for the “green” energy revolution.

You will learn to provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively while adhering to correct procedures and health and safety guidelines. You will be working closely with our technical team to provide support for the Geochemistry Research Group Laboratories, and defined research or consultancy projects. You will learn to use and maintain specialist laboratory equipment and demonstrate its use to our postgraduate students.

The apprenticeship will be a combination of learning on the job, guided by our highly experienced technical team, together with off-the-job training/study with our training provider Fareham College. On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will become a qualified Laboratory Technician.

We are signatories of the Technician Commitment and have pledged to support our technicians within the key areas of recognition, visibility, career development, and sustainability: www.southampton.ac.uk/about/our-people/technical-staff.page

We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community. We particularly encourage women, Black, Asian, and minority ethnic (BAME), LGBT, and disabled applicants to apply for this position.
