Job Description

The Department of Veterinary Medicine of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking candidates for a Research Assistant position in the field of tick parasitology for eighteen (18) months. The selected candidate is expected to contribute to strengthening and promoting tick research in the department. The research assistant should have expertise in ticks and other ectoparasites. The tasks of the research assistant are tick collection in the field from camels and other livestock as well as wildlife, installation of traps for wildlife, DNA/RNA extractions, conducting PCRs, data collection/data management, statistical analysis (preferably R software) and manuscript writing. The selected candidate must have the ability to work independently in the field, analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate measures to resolve problems while following UAEU/CAVM policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualification

• Master degree in parasitology/entomology
• Research experience dealing with ticks and other ectoparasites
• Fluency in English (oral and written)

Preferred Qualification

• Fluency in Arabic
