Deakin University are currently seeking an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer to join as part of Deakin’s School of Health and Social Development team.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in leading biostatistics teaching across our programs, specifically the Master of Public Health, Master of Health Economics and the Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion. The appointee will provide teaching leadership, including the development of new courses in biostatistics and quantitative methods, mentoring early and mid-career academics and health researchers, and the development of a program of quantitative research that aligns with the school’s objectives.

This position is suited to a highly motivated individual holding a doctoral qualification in biostatistics or statistics, who has an established profile in methodological research in biostatistics; and broad experience in health research, including advanced statistical analyses of randomised trials or observational studies and the development of statistical analysis plans and trial protocols; and distinguished scholarly learning and teaching in biostatistics and quantitative research design at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The successful candidate will be appointed based on experience relevant to the role.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Build teaching and learning capability related to discipline or pedagogy, and leads the professional development of other academics
  • Apply leading industry, clinical and/or research practice into student learning experiences and resources
  • Lead the development and coordinate integration of innovative teaching practices across disciplines within the University
  • Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes
  • emerging recognition as a public intellectual
  • Contribute to the leadership of major research projects, including internal and external collaboration to create new insights and opportunities
  • Create and sustain research collaborations and partnerships which have demonstrable outcomes
  • Contribute to the leadership of successful development of significant international research programs or partnerships
  • Mentoring early career researchers
  • Contribute to the leadership, supervision, management, and timely completion of HDR students, including advising and improving on research excellence, career development and candidature management

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline related to biostatistics or a PhD in statistics and extensive applied statistical experience working with health data.
  • Applied biostatistical knowledge and experience in multivariable analyses, including regression modelling and time to event analysis
  • Distinguished scholarly learning and teaching biostatistics and quantitative research design in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including innovative curriculum design and supervision to doctoral level
  • Strong track record in public health and medical research, including advanced statistical analyses of randomised trials and observational studies and the development of trial protocols and statistical analysis plans
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive collaborations within biostatistics teams and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching of biostatistics across different levels and modes, including non-statistical audiences and online and face to face modality
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary issues.
